On August 20, 2005, we boarded the Carnival Glory. Embarkation was many
different lines they had one line to check in and turn in the immigration
paperwork for the Bahamas. Then the second line to get you sign and sail card.
Then a third line to activate your sign and sail card. Then you stand in line to
get on board.
The ship was very clean when boarding her.
The luggage was delivered to your cabin up till 7pm. If you did not get your
luggage because either you did not fill out the tag correctly or if the tag was
ripped off they put the luggage by the Pursers office and you were to come and
get it. Many cases were never found.
The tour desk was very helpful at all times. Including while people were waiting
for their tours on the piers and wanting to change to a different tour.
The ship went to the Bahamas as the first port.
Second port was St. Thomas. I did not know this but for about the past year you
have to go thru American immigration before you can go ashore. Count on this to
take up to four hours after the ship docks before you can go ashore. The good
news is if you have an early tour time you will be on of the first groups off
the ship. Our tour was a early afternoon tour so by the time we got off of the
ship we only had time to shop at some the of stores near the ship. Once we got
back from the tour we went to the rest of the shops, we did not have time go
into town or anything else. You will have to go thru immigration even if you do
not get off the ship.
St. Maarten was the last port.
We had three days at sea; the ship had many different activities all the time.
When the weather was bad they moved the activities from outside in and added new
activities at the last minute. One of the nice things about the Glory is either
you can do all the activities that you want or you can relax and do nothing and
not be disturbed by the action. It is only a party ship if you want it to be.
The Glory has many quiet areas inside and outside so that either you can read
play games or just relax during the day.
I love that they did the ice carving durning the day so the kids can enjoy it.
We loved the art auctions besides the selling of the art the auctioneer would
explain the differences between original and accurate reproductions. He also
told us about different artist and their beginnings.
At night they had very good shows everything from Las Vegas style to magic,
comedians and of course the passenger talent show. They also had two midnight
shows with the comedians for 18 and older, which were very good.
The soda card is wonderful for kids and adults. My husband loved that they used
soda in cans instead of fountains.
The wait staff and room staff where wonderful at making sure every need was
taken care of.
We ordered from room service a couple of times the food arrived very fast and
was what we ordered.
The main complaint that I heard from other passenger was about the food. The
juices and coffee’s seemed to be watered down. The food was small portions and
sometimes very bland. Sometimes what you ordered off the menu description is not
what was brought to you but it was close.
I also so heard from other people that the food was wonderful. My husband and I
did not feel the food was up to Carnival’s standards. I have been on Carnival
about 15 times mainly in the 70’s and both of us on the Fantasy when she first
came out.
Debarkation seems to run very smooth. They offer if you can carry all of your
bags with out help you can leave early. We did get off in the first group since
we took the tour of Kennedy Space Center.
