I was in the Navy so I think I have a different point of view than most of
the reviews I've read about this ship. Being a retired navy man and never
having sailed on anything but navy ships before, this ship looked
fantastic to me. The service was exceptional and I couldn't believe how
friendly and helpful the staff was during the entire cruise. I heard
people say the food was bad, but I thought it was great. People complained
about the motion of the ship but I could barely tell it was moving. I
don't know what people expect out of a cruise but I was waited on hand and
foot by very friendly people in a clean and very elegant ship. There was
PLENTY of shopping opportunities. I have nothing bad at all to say about
our stateroom. We had a wonderful time and I would recommend traveling on
it again.
I like to run and I found that the "running deck" they have on the 11th
deck is not really adequate. Instead I ran on the 10th deck which I
estimated one lap to be approx. 1/3 mile. Nobody ever said I couldn't run
on it and it was sufficient to get a good run in. I did one run of 7 miles
before pulling into Costa Rica. The only problem is that the forward part
of the ship acts like a wind tunnel and it makes it hard to walk or run up
there, but I still did ok.
The gym was very good and they have excellent sauna facilities. I tend to
get up very early to work out so I was usually exhausted and in bed by
10PM when they had their nightly shows but I heard they were very good.
That was my choice to miss them and I can't fault the ship because I chose
to sleep instead of watch the shows.
I can't compare this to another cruise line since this was the only cruise
ship I was ever on, so take my comments for whatever they are worth. From
reading previous reviews I feel kind of guilty for stating that we had a
great time. But for me, 8 days of no cell phone, rush hour traffic, or
e-mails was enough to make me feel like I died and went to heaven so I'm
not inclined to be too harsh here. Again, I had a great time and I whole
heartedly recommend the Legend for anybody thinking of taking a cruise.
