Carnival Victory Cruise Review
Halifax, Canada

Sailing Date: July 15th, 2006

I had a great time on this cruise. We went to Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John, New Brunswick. I was with my boyfriend, my cousin and his girlfriend, so it was a nice group of four.

Embarkation was really easy. My boyfriend and I booked a suite, so we had VIP check-in. Unfortunately, the VIP computers were down and they sent us to a regular line, but at least it was one with only one other person there. It took about 30 minutes from the time we left the taxi until we were on the ship and all set.

When we set sail from NY, it was cloudy, but warm and it was a beautiful night, but we woke up the next morning surrounded by fog. It stayed pretty foggy for most of the trip, but this needs to be expected when traveling up to Canada. One thing that was bad about it was the fact that you really couldn’t sunbathe (again, something that you can’t expect to do constantly in Canada) and the pools and Jacuzzi’s were cold. I wish they made them warmer.

The food was OK. It wasn’t nearly as good as the food on Carnival Glory, but it was still decent. I found that I really loved something or just ate because it was there. Nothing was bad, but it wasn’t what you expect from a cruise.

St. John is very small and it doesn’t have much to do. I would recommend the reversing falls and the jet boat ride through the rapids if you’re up to it. That was a lot of fun.

Halifax is really cute and we did the pub tour through the ship which was a lot of fun. You are able to see a decent portion of Halifax and learn about local history while a band and bagpiper escort you to each pub.

There were a lot of little things that went wrong on this trip, but I won’t dwell on them because things happen and I wouldn’t let them get in the way of the cruise. I feel it is unnecessary to point out each little thing like some reviews I’ve seen because it gives people a terrible impression when it was really no big deal. It didn’t change the good things.

Last few things. The ship is really nice. I always found it to be clean and well taken care of. The Casino was nice and there was always someone around to help you or take a drink order. Waiter service was excellent in the Atlantic dining room. We didn’t have any problems there.

Debarkation was a breeze and we were off the ship in about ten minutes.

I would definitely recommend this cruise to anyone who is not picky and who would like a vacation away from the Caribbean.
