Itinerary: Western Caribbean
This was my 3rd cruise with Carnival. My first 2 were on the smaller Celebration
and Jubilee. This ship was beautiful and sailed so much smoother and quieter
than the ones in the past. My overall experience with this ship was a pleasant
one. Not too many complaints.
Food: Buffets, pizza and hamburgers are available almost around the
clock. They are average. For the really good stuff, eat in the dining room. I
was a little disappointed with the desserts as I am a huge sweets fan.
Service: Impeccable as always. You are treated like a star.
Ports: Progresso is very poor and doesn’t have alot to offer. They do
have a beach right off the pier that doesn’t require a fee or a taxi ride. If
you venture any further than the end of the pier, you will regret it. I
recommend booking an excursion.
Cozumel: pretty and tons of stuff to do. We took the Playa Mia beach
break and loved it. We finished off the day at Carlos N Charlie’s.
Belize: Nasty Nasty and scary. I never wish to go back here again. An
awful place. I was really afraid. We took a water taxi to Caye Caulker. It was
supposed to be a pretty island with a beach. It is NOT. Do not waste your time.
I hear the snorkeling and diving is great here, but if you don’t do that, I
suggest staying on the boat.
My biggest complaint: When we signed up for golf in Progresso, the golf
pro told us we were the only ones who had signed up so far. We asked him if that
would be a problem and he said “no, not at all, I could use the practice.” The
night before the excursion, at 7:30pm, he slid a note under our door stating he
cancelled it due to lack of participants. The excursion desk was closed and we
hadn’t done any further research on any other excursions so we basically wasted
our entire day roaming around a poor city.
The weather was beautiful all 7 days and it was the smoothest cruise I have ever
taken.
Show up at 1:00 for embarkation and you will be on the ship with a drink in your
hand in 20 minutes, I promise.
Pack light and agree to carry your own luggage off the ship during debarkation
and you get to go first. This is a new option and we did it. We were off the
ship and in our car at 8:30. If not, you will be on the ship till about 10 –
10:30.
The Hotel Galvez offers a great cruise package. Room, brunch, shuttle service to
and from the pier and parking for the length of the cruise for $155. Well worth
it. No car to pick up and no traffic to sit in.
All in all, I love sailing on Carnival and will continue to do so. I am in my
early 30’s and it seems to suit me just fine. People of all ages and are lots of
fun. (I do not cruise during summer as I am not a big fan of other people’s
children!)
