Carnival Fantasy Cruise Review

Cruise Line: Carnival
Name of Ship: Fantasy
Sailing Date: November 24th, 2002
Itinerary: Bahamas

We had booked this trip through a bus touring company whom we had traveled with previously and were satisfied with previous standards of cleanliness etc. and had expected to find the same or better standards on a cruise. We were extremely disappointed to find that the ship and especially our cabin M170 was a disgrace. Our shower had black mould on the walls and under the shower mat. Under the small bunk beds, which were not very comfortable we found used tissues. Definitely every night we would find our beds turned down and sometimes the towels were made into animal shapes. I felt that time would have been better spent cleaning. We found that this was not a cruise for older people. We had hoped to at least be able to enjoy the pool but even if it had not been always occupied by children it was not a tempting sight. One small pool for over 2000 passengers.

The dining was pretty good but water was heavily chlorinated which made it unpleasant to drink and did not improve the taste of the tea. Bottled water was supplied in the cabins at $3.25 per bottle. Soft drinks were $2.50 each.

We found while walking on the deck that at a certain point in the ship we would have to turn back because of the smell.

The entertainment was too loud and unless you liked to drink or gamble there really wasn't much to do.

We never found the exercise room. Getting around the ship was very confusing and we found most people were having the same problem. Long waits for the elevators were the norm.

Freeport and Nassau are not worth the expense to tour. We found the Straw market at Freeport quite clean and pleasant but the shopping in Nassau was not.

The lifejackets which we were rushed to take and go up on deck for emergency drill as soon as we'd reached our cabins were filthy. I would not have put that on even to save my life. I doubt if they had even been cleaned let alone sanitized from the first sailing of the ship.

Altogether an experience I never want to repeat.
