This was our second trip on the Fascination; we went
back in 2001 on our honeymoon. This time we were with a group of 12 people ages
25 to 30.
We arrived at the port around 11:30 am. Embarkation was a breeze, from the time
we arrived at the terminal, we were in our cabin in 20 minutes. Our cabin was
nice size wasn’t huge, but very functional. We recommend taking an over door
shoe organizer to put all of your toiletries in to keep things organized and
save space. Monday was our day to get acclimated to the ship and find out where
everything was located. We had a great time at the sail away party on the Lido
Deck.
Key West was our first port of call. The weather was beautiful. We hit the usual
Key West spots and photo opportunities, Hemingway House, the southernmost point,
and Duval Street and headed back to the ship for departure.
Tuesday night was formal night and the lobster tail was delicious. The nightlife
on the ship was also great. The night club was jumping on most nights,
especially the first two nights. I don’t know if its always like this or it was
due to it being Spring Break. Either way it was cool with us. Karaoke always
seemed to have a nice crowd and the comedy shows were entertaining as well.
Wednesday morning we ported in Calica, and took a $10 cab ride over to Playa del
Carmen for a day of relaxing at the beach. The beach there is beautiful. There
are also ferries in Playa that will take you over to Cozumel if you'd like. We
got two table and chairs at one of the oceanside restaurants and chilled out for
the entire day. We didn’t partake in any shore excursions so we could be on our
own agenda. Dinner on Wednesday was scrumptious, the filet mignon and sweet and
sour fried shrimp were excellent.
Thursday was our day at sea, which was not my favorite. I would have loved to
have an opportunity to visit another port, but we knew what we were getting when
we signed up. We caught up on our rest Thursday and got ready for our voyage
home the next day.
Debarkation went well also; we were out of our cabin at 7:30 am and off the ship
by 8:00 am. We were fortunate to be one of the first decks called to debark. I
would definitely recommend this cruise and cruise line to anyone looking for a
moderately priced vacation getaway. We all had a wonderful time.
