Jewel of the Seas Cruise Review

Royal Caribbean

Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean

Number of Cruises: 18
Sailing Date: September 22nd, 2005

My wife, myself and our 21 yr old wheelchair bound son had a handicapped room on the 4th level - the room was ideal - it is the size of 2 regular staterooms and the bathroom is very adequate for showering someone either in their wheelchair or transferring to the wall mounted shower chair. The doors to the cabin open "automatically" once you put your card in the lock - best accommodations we have had thus far. The dining room was roomy and we had a table in the back of the room - on any other ship we have been on - it would have meant the moving of at least 10 people in order to get Adam's chair to the table - not on the Jewel - even after everyone had been seated we could still easily get to our table. We have booked the same cabin for next September already.

ps. We could not get into Bermuda on the way to the Caribbean so the captain got us a full day in St Thomas, St Maarten, San Juan and we hit Bermuda on the way back to Boston - no loss in not going to Labadee - it is just a beach with pushy beach wheelchair attendants who think that they need to hang around with you and your family until you leave the island and pay them - if i never go back to Labadee it will be too soon. Overall we had a wonderful time, the entertainment was also very good for a 10 day cruise
