Boarding the ship at Southampton at 12.00 noon was quick and easy, due to the
online check in we did, and would recommend doing. The staterooms were available
at 1.00pm so we took the time to take some photos of the ship while it was still
empty. First impression, the centrum is beautiful, with the marble staircase and
glass lifts and lovely champagne bar, where there is live music every night, a
nice place for a pre-dinner drink. Our stateroom deck seven room 7000 was very
nice and clean and plenty of cupboard and wardrobe space, good size balcony. The
ship was very clean through out and hand rails were constantly being cleaned.
The two story Romeo and Juliet dining room was very impressive and the long
windows with the view over the sea lovely, the food was excellent and the
waiting staff first class and very helpful and friendly. The windjammer buffet
style cafe is also a good standard of food, but thought there were more cold
dishes than hot, but we did only use it a few times to be fair, very good
selection of deserts though. The sauna bar did good pizza, burgers, hot dogs and
chips, and sometimes there were barbeques on the pool deck. The Anchors Away
lounge was very nicely decorated and had some good entertainment going on. The
Schooner bar we found to be too Smokey, but we are ex smokers, it seemed to be
quite a popular place. The Viking crown lounge at the top of the ship was just
fantastic, with lovely views, we watched the sun go down, what a lovely sight.
Later on in the evening there are disco's here. That's entertainment theatre,
again is nicely designed with all seats giving a good view of the stage, we
found the shows to be very good and lasting about an hour long. The casino royal
was excellent with a good selection of slots, roulette and gaming tables, casino
staff were also very helpful. The main pool was smallish but the indoor spa pool
was larger and beautifully set out. The legend of the links golf putting green
was rather good and the rock climbing wall okay if you like that sort of thing.
We never used the fitness centre or the spa, which I have heard to be quite good
from other guests. We went on five tour excursions and thought them all to be
very good, and worth the money we spent on them. Our cabin was kept very clean
through out our cruise, and the cruise compass which was left each evening in
the stateroom to be full of information for the next days events. The ship
overall was very nice, but being ten years old there were a few signs of this
here and there if you really looked for it, but we were delighted with the whole
cruise, and the excellent service of all the ships staff which was first class.
We would definitely cruise with Royal Caribbean again in the future.
