I have been on this ship 4 times in the past, and Royal Caribbean has done a beautiful job refurbishing it. Majesty of the Seas was in dry dock for almost all of February 2007, and the time and effort to expand and freshen this ship shows. It no longer shows its 15 year age.

Stateroom: The ocean view stateroom I was in seemed larger than the one in the past. The beds were “real beds”, not couches that doubled as thin, uncomfortable beds in the past. The mattresses were thicker and so comfortable. The bed linens were beautiful white duvets with accents of green, topped with fluffy, thick pillows. The showers in the bathroom are still small (as in all ships), but the sinks appeared new with new tiling. Royal Caribbean added a lot of wood trim to the staterooms and hallways which give the ship an upscale appearance. All the carpets in the ship were brand new.

Dining: The Windjammer buffet on Deck 11 was completely changed, for the better. It now offers all indoor seating, fashionable and comfortable tables and chairs for various group sizes, and the food is set out in different stations: Vegetarian, Asian, Italian, etc. There were never any long buffet lines. The food was tasty and creative…although some dishes were a little salty for my palate. The wait staff was also very friendly and helpful there, and everything was kept very clean. They have also added a Johnny Rockets and a Deli to Deck 12, and expanded the pizza area. There is a $3.95 per person cost to eat at Johnny Rockets…I believe this covers the tip for the staff, who well deserve it. Milkshakes and sodas cost extra, but you can have any and all food items and dessert items on the menu. The food tasted the same as the Johnny Rockets in Florida where I live. The entertainment provided by the wait staff and cooks were amazing….they worked very hard to please every passenger, and greeted you like an old friend. They would break out in a song and dance routine that had the passengers on their feet! They got a lot of business because they were open until 1am every night. The pizza area has all indoor seating, and is decorated in vibrant reds. The pizza was good….not like the hand tossed, thin crust pies that Princess makes, but it was still tasty and most importantly, open until 3am! Our group of eight people ate in the Starlight Dining room on Deck 4 twice. While the food was tasty and the service friendly, the menu wasn’t as dazzling as I’d had in the past…we actually preferred the creative foods in the Windjammer Buffet! They also had a midnight buffet on the pool deck as we departed Nassau…very festive with the music, ice carvings and displays. Unfortunately, I was too full from dinner to try any of the delicious looking food.

Entertainment: Majesty puts on some GREAT dance shows. “Boogie Nights” and “Signed, sealed, delivered” showcased the great dance music of the 70’s and 80’s…both shows full of great dancing, costumes, and energy. There was also a Comedian and a juggler, which were okay.

Activities: Since I went on Majesty’s Monday to Friday cruise, nearly every day involved a port. I was really pleased that we were able to go ashore to Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s private island. The food, sand and surf were wonderful. On previous cruises, the Captain cancelled Coco Cay due to weather, since passengers are tendered to the shore. A crew member told us that if the wind is blowing in a direction that can force the tenders into the rocks around the island, they have to cancel. Although the water was a bit rough, the winds were in our favor and we were able to tender without difficulty. If you don’t do an excursion or go ashore, there are very few activities to keep you busy on board. But the pools are usually empty! My mother and I were the only ones who showed up for trivia during one port day…winners by default! This cruise had about 900 spring breakers; however the pool always had room. There are only 2 hot tubs, and they were always full.

Ports: I’ve been to Nassau and Key West many times. For the first time, however, I went to Paradise Island in Nassau. I recommend taking the water taxi round trip (it costs $3 one way/$6 round trip per person….regular taxi costs $5 one way)…it’s a beautiful view and ride. We walked to the Atlantis Resort (7 minutes)….at $400 a room per night, this is not a hotel I can afford to stay in. BUT, walking around the grounds is FREE…you can check out the shops, the restaurants, casino and the amazing Aquarium. There is a portion that is free, and another portion that costs around $25 for a guided tour. Skip the tour…just hang out in the free part; you’ll see all the same sea life!

All in all….it was a great cruise, great crew, and great entertainment. I had family with me who varied in age from 35 to 75 and all found something they liked…no disappointments. The ship took extra precautions with security due to the large volume of young people. Everything was well controlled and quiet (at least what we experienced!).
