Age: 43
Occupation: Timekeeper
Number of Cruises: 2
Cruise Line: RCCL
Ship: Legend of the Seas
Sailing Date: September 5th, 2004
Itinerary: Mexican Riviera
This was our second RCCL cruise. It was even better than the first. If it's
going to be a great cruise for you, you'll have to decide what you're looking
for first. If you're looking for stuffed shirt decorum & luxury, RCI probably
isn't for you. If you're looking for a relaxing fun vacation, I highly recommend
it.
Embarkation/Disembarkation: Arriving is a breeze. Airport to "B" street
pier by taxi ~ $8.00. Check in as close to 1:00 pm as possible. Leaving the ship
can be a pain. Depends on how quickly US Customs does their thing. It's easier
to leave than it is to return. Make sure your papers are in order. ;)
The Ship: Well maintained. Full, but, not crowded. The interior
decoration & art work is stunning.
Cabin: 3572 outboard starboard. Nice view. Well laid out & functional.
Plenty of storage space. Small bathroom, removable showerhead makes it
functional if your over 5' 8"
Food: Dining Room food & service was average to above average. Windjammer
(buffet) was pretty good. Service was inconsistent. Sometimes outstanding,
sometimes lethargic.
If you're hungry & it's late, the solarium has pizza, hamburgers, & hot dogs.
Entertainment: Abundant. Depends on your tastes. OK
Kids stuff: N/A Lots of little ones on board, but, they seemed to me to be
well occupied & well behaved. I love pirate night. :)
Quiet places to watch the sunset: Deck 4 aft & Compass deck forward. If you
like to watch the DARK night sky, compass deck is good for that too.
Ports:
Cabo San Lucas: Hot & extremely humid. The vendors are very forward. Be
careful crossing streets (no traffic control). No shopping bargains. This is an
excursion place.
Mazatlan: Hot & humid. Take the shuttle (mandatory) off the pier, ignore
the Suburban's, & take an open air taxi ($6) to where you want to go. There are
some good deals to be had if you have time & are willing to negotiate. The
vendors are not quite as forward.
Puerto Vallarta: Hot. Beautiful. Take a cab to the shopping district ($5
- $6), t-shirts (cheap) to art (wonderful, but, out of my price range). Check
out the market on the pier. Lot's of junk & lots of good stuff too. Some good
deals. I know we're not used to haggling, but, I would suggest that you haggle.
Crew: Thanks to the Captain for the SitReps. Thanks to my cabin steward
for her unobtrusive attentiveness. Thanks to the pool crew (Graham & Joao) &
schooner crew (Marlin & Julian). And a special thanks to my good luck charm in
the casino, Garry.
Cruise Cons: The Windjammer runs out of the advertised beef quickly at
dinner i.e. 10 oz strip or 4 oz filet. If the Staff Captain is scheduled to
show, you can count on a good meal with good service. If not, it's pretty much
self service, sans beef.
Synopsis: The Legend of Seas is a beautiful ship with a smiling crew. If
your're looking for fun & relaxation, I recommend it. If you're looking for
proper fork usage at dinner, I suggest QE II.
