First of all I would like to give my review for the
younger crowd that goes on cruises, from the questions I read and reviews there
need to be some questions answered so here ya go.
I went on the Western Caribbean cruise during January with my girlfriend she’s
20, the weather was of course nice compared to the freezing weather of Chicago
that I’m used to. I recommend staying at a hotel in Miami a few days ahead of
time because after you board the cruise will be over before you know it and its
nice not to worry about a delayed flight. But on the question of weather in the
carib In January it is GREAT!, the weather in Ocho Rios was 98, Caymans was 97,
Labadee must have been 100, and cozumel well it rained and was like 60-70
something. Anyways we stayed in coconut grove at a very nice hotel overlooking
Biscayne Bay very nice! So here are a list of do’s and don’ts.
DO – Get late seating for dinner! Otherwise you feel force-fed.
DO – Arrive early, there are 3000 people boarding so you can imagine the
line.
DON’T – Bring liquor, even if you get it on, (which we did) you can buy
it for way cheaper duty free. Just bring mixes coke,oj, grenadine whatever. Ps
they DO search luggage (the cut my friends zip ties to look in his luggage, that
includes reboarding).
DO – Bring tons of bottled water, not just for the ship but when you got
to the beach, unless you like to 3-4 dollar charge.
DO – get phone numbers from people and write them down. We met some nice
people from New York and we have no way of getting a hold of them now.
DO- Participate! Go to events parade, ice shows, etc especially THE
NEWLEYWED GAME! That was hilarious! I thought I was too young and wanted to wait
for the vault to open, wrong!
DO – Buy the drink cards! They are a great deal!
DO- Spend the extra cash on a balcony suite! Worth every penny!
DO – go to Carlos and Charles with your friends you meet, you get plowed,
do conga lines, tequila shots AWESOME! It rained that day and we had the best
day of our cruise with our friends, buying each other shots!
OCHO RIOS – Tip the guides on the ship for the falls excursion will tell
you to try to buy a water proof camera or not to bring it DON’T LISTEN! The
guides at the falls will hold your camera and take pictures for you, you have to
tip them but guess what you have to tip them anyways.
TECHNO – If you like techno music, bring your glow sticks to the vault
12:30 – 1am for some clubbin.
DRINKS- VERY strong even for my girlfriend who was a bartender at her
college, they don’t skimp so you will get hammered!
ROOMS- Try to get a room on the left side (facing forward) that’s were
you can see the cars leave when you leave port and the islands when your docked.
Bottom line Voyager was awesome! Get there early walk around and play mini golf
before it starts getting crowded you can also get you pictures of the ship out
of the way. You meet a lot of people and can have a blast if you participate and
have a good time. It’s true that you don’t get to experience everything its TOO
big! But it was one of the best Vacations of our lives and was planning an
eastern Caribbean cruises on explorer next year.
